Founded in 2004, Aravind’s Ring of Hope program provides free treatment for children with retinoblastoma – a fast-growing, often fatal, eye cancer that strikes children under five years old. In the United States, retinoblastoma is 90% curable – in India, 90% of children die, because diagnosis and treatment come too late.

This devastating disease robs children of their sight and often their lives. It also places a huge financial burden on families, whose average wage is $2 a day. Aravind doctors provide their services free of charge, but donations are needed to pay for surgical supplies, chemotherapy, radiation, blood replacement, custom-made prostheses, and family counseling.

$50 restores a child's confidence and self-esteem with a prosthetic eye for a patient whose diseased eye has been removed.

$100 covers one chemotherapy treatment cycle for a patient operated on for eye cancer. Usually 5-6 cycles of chemotherapy are required.

$1000 pays for afull course of treatment, includingsurgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. It also covers travel costs for families who must make repeat visits to the hospital for on-going treatment.
