Inauguration of Aravind Eye Hospital – Chennai

Aravind Eye Hospital — Chennai was inaugurated on September 29 with local dignitaries, international visitors, and Aravind’s senior management in attendance — on the first day of operations, 337 patients received treatment.

Situated on the city’s Poonamallee High Road, the spacious, 700-bed hospital facility offers all the sub-specialties in ophthalmology and will serve as a center of excellence for treatment, training, and research in the region. Like all Aravind hospitals, Aravind-Chennai will be self-sustaining, while offering services for free or at steeply subsidized rates to the underprivileged.
