Aravind opens 45th vision center in Auroville Thank you Kelly Sisters
Thanks to a generous grant from Julie and Anne Kelly, Aravind opened its 45th vision center in the beautiful and serene township of Auroville, near Puducherry, Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1968, Auroville is an international community of about 10,000 people from 120 countries, dedicated to sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind.
Dr. Natchiar, Director of Human Resources Emeritus, and officials from Auroville, presided over inauguration of the vision center. On its first day, the center saw 53 patients and recommended eight patients for surgery at Aravind Hospital Puducherry. The center is housed in the Auroville Health Center, and will also serve 15 surrounding villages, with a total population of 25,000.
The Kelly sisters are sponsoring an additional vision center near Aravind Eye Hospital — Tirunelveli, in the village of Kadayam.
