New Covid-19 program to treat Covid patients with Mucormycosis
Mucormycosis is an aggressive, non-contagious fungal disease, which spreads to the eyes and has a high fatality rate if not treated quickly. Normally, it is rare, but with Covid-19, there has been a dramatic increase, particularly among diabetics and those with compromised immune systems. With support from the Sohum Foundation and under the guidance of Dr. Usha, head of Orbit, Oculoplasty and Ocular Oncology Services, we recently started a program to provide surgery and medications for patients affected. Dr. Prajna, one of the world’s leading experts on fungal disease, was interviewed in the Hindu Times.
